Hello Flo

Meet Flo.  She is a beige cross over jumpsuit from Reiss.  I picked this outfit up for a golfing event I had to attend at the weekend (networking not playing) and I wanted a smart outfit I could wear with flats on the green.  Flo was the answer and although this didn't look particularly appetizing on the hanger, and I'm still in two minds whether I like it now, it was great outfit choice for the day mixing sexy and conservative at the same time.  Sexy, you ask? Yes sexy, as when you walk the layers open and the full length of your pins are exposed. I really love the uniqueness of this outfit, the layering of the legs are something quite different and it is has pockets too! Pockets definitely makes it a winner.

After taking the bold step from going blonde to brunette (and I was dragged there kicking and screaming) it was time for some new hair. I actually really loved being a brunette, however living in the sun the colour fades so quickly and I found it is as hard to maintain as my roots when I was lighter. What the transition did achieve is that I am now colour-fearless!

Traiteur is my favourite place to have brunch in Dubai, proving that it's not about quantity and more about quality fresh produce and ingredients.  My friends and I really indulged in their decadent offering, from lobster to oysters, spit-roasted big and foie gras creme brulee - not to mention copious amounts of champers.

The Formula1 is one of the most exciting events on the Emirates social-calendar, hosted at the extraordinary Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, we buddied up and hopped on board a friend’s Yacht to watch Lewis win the championship in style.

Sunday, November 16

This weekend I was thrown back to a retro revival on wheels, where I had the pleasure of being co-pilot in a newly refurbished Mercedes 450 SLC classic from 1979.

I’m sporting the very recognizable Prada shades (yawn) doesn’t everyone have these now? Note to self:  add new shades to the Christmas list.  Regardless, big glasses are an absolute necessity for a car of this era so you can dawn your Natalie Wood look as best as possible. Keeping it light, simple (and sweat free) I wore a day dress from Koton, which was black lace cutout, layered over a nylon slip.

Breakfast Served at La Serre

Firstly, let me set the scene: it's Saturday morning, the girls are out for breakfast, we're catching up and  celebrating a birthday at La Serre in The Vida hotel, Downtown. I love this restaurant and was eager to try their breakfast so became the venue of choice to celebrate Miss Riley's birthday over coffee, cake and carbs.

This year the family are spending Christmas in Paris which I'm absolutely delighted about as I have never been before.  So in the midst of holiday planning, arranging the theatre shows we want to see, ensuring I've included all hot spots from the Da Vinci Code and Sex In The City, I have also been day dreaming about my ideal Paris wardrobe.  It does appear that my taste exceeds my budget, however lets believe in Law of Attraction and hope I can at least realise a couple of things off of my wish list! This Is How I Rolls

Look at me being little miss fancy pants, firstly meant very literally in these floral cotton trousers from New Look and secondly for posing on this regal green 1975 Rolls Royce.  Unfortunately this classic beaute is just a prop and belongs to a friend but made a great setting for my outfit post today.  Fortunately these pictures were taken outside my house in a very quiet street so I did not look like the tourists you see at the malls having their pictures taken next to the exotic cars that Dubai attracts, otherwise that would have been a bit cringe.

Sunday, October 26

As I write this blog post I am sitting in Jamie's Italian feeling very lethargic and self indulgent after consuming double-rounds of carbs.  I love the setting here.  It is very urban, very chilled, but yet has a premium feeling with the high spec features such as the huge rustic chandeliers that dominate the room.  The metal chairs, retro glasses, stainless steal tables and rippled windows are very reminisent of a 1980s England with a revolutionary modern twist.

Thursday, October 23

I had a bit of a make up replen at the weekend, some new introductions and some old faithfuls so a face of the day post felt necessary.  I had a long day ahead, a full day at work (as a pose to what I do not know) followed by an after work event - an Alexander Wang collection launch which I'll post about later! - so I needed product that would last 14hours with minimal touch ups.  Please let me introduce you to the finalists that made the cut, quite heavy products but I went for softer tones so I hopefully didn't look too caked.

Isn’t it great that the weather is cooling down and we can switch our sandals for loafers?  I have a love for these flat sole kicks, something comfortable to walk down the street in whilst still looking stylish.  I found a great pair of patent monochrome flats New Look last week, very Bugsy Malone with the black and white contrast, great for smartening up the simplest of outfits.

What I wore today, an outfit I only bought the night before but was so excited to sport my new threads that I had to wear it to work the very next day.  Before I delve into the details of this outfit post I firstly have to excuse the backdrop of my photo - I'm actually outside Spinny's in Jumeirah en route to do my weekly food shop, not ideal, but trying to fit in blogging, work and play is quite challenging at the mo - so I hope I'm excused!

Friday, October 17

A little fash-diary of my working week, where I went, what I bought and a few lifestyle snaps in between.  This week I had a very successful shopping haul, new make up and new outfits for work (both justifiable spending) plus I attended the lingerie brand, Boux Avenue's press day.

Eid Break to Sri Lanka

Having just returned from an amazing five day break in Marissa I wanted to share my travel diaries and photos from the beautiful country that is Sri Lanka.  A destination that has been on my travel-wish-list for sometime, I am happy I am now able to put a big strike through it and start daydreaming about my next globe trotting adventure.

I had the most enchanting time in the jungle that is Sri Lanka, and here is why I fell in love with the little southern Indian island of paradise.

Taking coordination to the extreme our nails can now match the bottom of our shoe soles with the launch of Louboutin's array of nail polishes.  The nail polishes come in the most beautiful edgy packaging, a ruby red gem bottle with a 6inch spike lid resembling the heel of your stiletto, designed to be displayed as an ornament on your dressing table and not hidden away in your make up box.

I purchased this in the Level Shoe District and is available in all UAE Louboutin stores retailing at AED240.  Red is the only colour available in the UAE at the moment, but this was definitely going to be my colour of choice - because if you're going to have red nails, you might as well make them Louboutin red!

Wednesday, October 1

Admittedly my favourite event of the season, Reiss launch their autumn/winter 14 collection at the extravagant Atelier M at Pier 7 in Dubai Marina.  The chic soiree showcased the key items for the season ahead for women and for men along with the must have accessories to complete the look.  In this post are the outfit details of what I wore for the event and a preview of the new season lines ahead of the fash-pack.

I was dressed in Winnie dress, a navy blue pleated maxi that retails at AED1,549. Navy is such a traditional colour that seems to be revived every couple of seasons because it's such a smart, sophisticated shade that opens up the possibilities of colour matching.  I accompanied my Winnie dress with a peachy pair of Manolo Blahniks and gold accessories.  Blue and orange are complimentary colours on the colour chart (according to Emma, my interior designer friend) and this is so true. You can mix and match the different shades of these colours and together they really enhance a look.

What I wore today, keeping it simple and reminiscent of a 1950s Sandra Dee school girl in this mid length skater skirt from New Look.  This is called the textured Waffle Skirt and is available in black, burgundy and an array of floral prints too.  I like it.  Its simple, floaty and feminine, one of those piece that you just don't have to think about styling - it will go with everything.  I'm definitely going to get some more of these skirts as they are great to wear in Dubai for those days when you need to dash about running errands and need to beat the heat whilst still looking conservative.

The other hero piece to mention is this jeweled embellished statement necklace from Aldo.  Their store at IBN Battuta Mall is my favourite as their accessories range is vast and really easy to shop.  This piece caught my eye in particular as I'm a lover of all pastel shades and I really liked how the shape of the necklace meant it sat nicely along the neckline of my top.

New Look launch their autumn/winter collection with a quirky venue, sun shining props and delicious canapés (it’s always about the food with me).

Being a fast fashion brand, NL is extremely trend driven, focusing on product that is contemporary and of the moment giving customers that instant gratification of fashion at their fingertips.  This season’s collection honored this mantra in true style as NL presented their trend driven collection to the regions media and top online-influencers.  So what are the trends that we’ll be rocking this a/w14?  Here goes: Boho Luxe, Mod Girl, Utility Chic and Checks & Tartan.  And what does that mean exactly?  Best defined by pictures…

Absolutely heart this dress that was an adhoc buy from Miss Selfridge in the week.  I was dashing round The Dubai Mall picking up some stuff for work when I past the store and this dress caught my eye – it was love at first sight.  I think all women have soft spot for Boho style; there is something organic and romantic about the effortless look.  As you can see from my previous post, I had a weekend away and I thought this would be the perfect ‘holiday look’ that is both dressy and casual.  I like that combo muchly.

The dress has a cream slip with an embodied net that goes over the top.  It is really comfy to wear, especially in the heat, and although it is quite casual attire – it really is a stand out piece because of its unusual layering.  Underwear was a slight issue, with the fabric being so see-through you kind of her to go as minimal as you possibly can!  I went for beige lace basics as I thought that to be the least obvious with minimal pinching.  To accessorize, I went for an amber/orange clutch from Bottega Veneta which is a beautiful piece but admitted entirely impractical.  It only gets a rare showcase when the contents consists of: a debit card, lipstick, that's about it.  Maybe a post note with key telephone numbers on at a push.

Thursday, September 18

There is nothing like escaping Dubai for a long weekend to a neighboring Emirate for some well needed relaxation time and last weekend I eloped to The Cove in Ras Al Khaimah.  The Cove property is not a regular hotel as it is made up of Arabic style villas that sit along the idyllic water inlets on Ras Al Khaimah beachfront over looking the Arabian Gulf.  In this post are the details on the maxi day-dress I wore coupled with some scenic pictures to take you there virtually.

This cut out, colour block maxi is from River Island, I bought this about a month ago so it may not be instore now but here is the link to the website incase you wanted similar (link!).  Forgive me as I don’t remember the cost but think it was around AED300.  I love RI’s beachwear category, they do some great cover style dresses that are fun and glam.  The cut out sides are great for nipping you in at the waist, although I’m not a huge lover of the colour combo (the lumo pink and green panels are a little tacky) but it’s a great summer piece to chuck on pool side and still feel ‘put together’ – minus the beach hair and sweat.

Dress: River Island | Flip flops: Havaianas | Sunglasses: Prada

When it comes to outerwear I’m really feeling capes and ponchos this autumn winter and it’s great living in a country where you can put fashion over functionality – as lets face it, in Europe you’re going to need to wrap up a little warmer than this.  I went to Koton’s Autumn/Winter collection launch last week where the brand showcased a great collection of coats and my particular favourite was this orange poncho I’m wearing below.

The event was hosted at Icon Lounge at the Radisson Blu in Media City, Dubai.  The main focus of the event was Koton’s wide range of denim, hence why I’m wearing it from top to toe.

Wednesday, September 10

Whilst spending the weekend in Abu Dhabi escaping the hustle and bustle of Dubai I had the pleasure of dining at Brasserie Angelique, a French a la carte restaurant in Etihad Towers.  Walking through the doors you are welcomed by an extravagant, French inspired interior, which gives you a feeling that you’re about experience something pretty special.

For starters, I opted for the scallops.  They were served in a rich Crustacean sauce that consisted of tiny brown prawns and diced onion which was really flavorsome, without taking away from the flavours of the scallops.  My friend went for the Langoustine et Boudin Blanc which was a little disappointing – the taste was impeccable but the fact that you was served only one Langoustine left you hungry for your main course.

With a blink of an eye September is here and that means one thing for fashion retailers – new season launch! Seriously, where has this year gone though?  It only seems like the other day I was writing a post about Spring/Summer launch and already we’re talking about fall fashion.

Lipsy launched their AW14 range at Ba restaurant in the Fairmont on The Palm, which was a lovely little venue discovery, amazing views of Dubai city line and delicious Thai/Chinese food (sorry I don’t know the difference but they served spring rolls).  To the very glamorous soiree I wore a piece from the new collection which was the black lace maxi-halter and retails at AED498.

Sunday, August 24

So I was super excited by my sales purchase of the week – these bootiful lilac pumps from Ralph Lauren, picked up at the Level Shoe District summer sale.  At AED1,110 my name was written all of these kicks, pastel colour (check), pointy court (check), three inch heel (check), sold.

These heels are from Ralph's SS14 collection where he smothered the catwalk in array of beautiful pastel clothes and accessories which are just perfect for that summer street style look.

I was invited to join Urban Bistro for their Friday Brunch after posting an appetizing picture on Instagram about their breakfast – I love their healthy, super-food menu so I was excited to return after my Friday morning yoga session for lunch with my friends.  And here’s the debrief…

Monday, August 18

On a mini exploration of Abu Dhabi to find the best high tea, brought us to the beautiful, although a little under developed, Saadiyat Island.  We arrived at the very grand St Regis Hotel, which is one of the few properties complete on the island, to indulge in some crust-less sandwiches and rich cream scones.  How very English.

Sunday, July 20

As briefly mentioned in my previous beauty post, I had my friends 30th Birthday black tie ball to attend at the weekend, which was a great excuse to have a little spurge in one of my favourite retailers, BCBG Maxaziria.

The dress I am wearing is called the Brandy Sleevless Lace-Bodice Gown and cost AED2,000.  I’m not quite sure why I warmed to this dress so much, as yellow isn’t a colour I would typically wear, I prefer nudes and pastels but there was something about this dress that just worked for me.  I was looking for a long gown that wasn’t too ‘poufy’ and I really liked how the skirt part of the dress was slim fitting and light.  The skirt was layered and had a center front drape which split up to the knee. The square, low cut neckline was very romantic and I liked the contrast in textures with the lace bodice and chiffon skirt.  The mini skirt underneath the layers was made from spandex, which was comfy and controlling.

I thought I would share with you the behind the scenes shots and my outfit details from a photo shoot I did with this week.  Style N Dubai is an online fashion magazine that caters for the luxury fashion lover, they asked me if I would feature in their Street Chic feature which I was delighted to accept.

The theme of the shoot was ‘a luxury summer look’ and I wore this ivory Isabelle dress from Reiss.  I think a white embroidered dress is something that you should invest in this season as they go with everything, seriously. It was fully lined so I did feel a little hot in it but I guess it would be more suitable for indoor venues.

The fabric is crochet and I particularly loved the sleeves where you could really see the detailing.  If I wasn’t playing dress up for a shoot, I think this outfit is perfect for those summer engagements, paired with a pretty kitten heel and you're ready to trot for some summer filled fun.

Amazing new Eats discovery for all of you foodies, which I have to give credit to my friend Adam for who was actually the one who stumbled upon this amazing boutique café, The Hamptons.  Located on Jumeirah Beach Road next to Bosporus restaurant, The Hamptons is a small café split over three levels serving healthy (ish) gourmet farm food inspired by the lifestyle and heritage of NY city living.

O.P.I Step It Up

I don’t know about you, but for me it has now become impossible to walk into a Sephora store with out wandering over to the O.P.I nail polish counter and trying out a new shade – enevitably adding a new one to the collection.  There are so many shades that I absolutely love but these are the three that seem to be on repeat purchase for me.  Please let me introduce you to: Step It Up, Samoan Sand and Mod About You.

Monday, June 16

On Friday I had my make-up professional done by one of the artists at PRO Makeup Boutique, I had a black tie ball to go to and since I was dressing up to the nines – I thought I would treat myself to red carpet make over as well.

PRO is a very small pop up store at the Oasis Centre and the reason why I went there to get my make up done was two fold: 1, because they are the experts when it comes to contouring foundations and 2, because they are the only stockiest of Velour lashes in Dubai.

So first of all lets talk about contouring.  The premise of contouring is the art of shading and highlighting to bring out or lessen features.  It works best when you use the same colour family, in lighter and darker shades.  The products that PRO used was the Magnetic Eye and Face Palette, since I have quite tanned skin they used the warmer colours on me.

First of all they darkened the sides of my nose and under my cheek bones in a shade I can only describe as mud-brown.  I didn’t realize how much of a contrast was required in the tone of the shades you are using, to create the contour effect.  The bridge of my nose was then highlighted in a very pale shade (third one in from the top right) and that was blended under my eyes, in between my eyebrows and marginally onto my forehead, a little dab in my philtrum, finishing with a line down my chin.  The colours were then blended together using a moist sponge and then finished off with bronzer around the edge of my face.  The makeup was applied using a set of pink Bambu brushes, a collection which is a vegan friendly, organic and anti bacterial

Once my make up and contouring was complete it was then time to pick my eyelashes.  This was a decision I took very carefully and was guided by the make up artists opinion.  The Velour eyelashes are 100% authentic mink lashes that are customized to suit your preference and eye shape.  Since they are a natural product thay are really comfortable and lightweight and it didn’t even feel like I had false eyelashes on.  The lashes are stitched onto a cotton thread band, which makes for easy application.

The shape I went for was Complete Me and the set cost AED250 and you can reuse them between 20-30 times before throwing them away.

Here are my outfit details from this weeks Dubai Girl Vlog so if you were interested in getting any of the pieces, you know where to buy it.  All of these outfits have been purchased in the last month so you will still be able to get hold of everything you like.  My Louis Vuitton handbags are old but they are classic styles which are always in stock .  If you haven't seen my episode this week you can watch it here and don't forget to subscribe if you like it.

What do you think of the hair?  These are salt-water waves and I think it is just the best 'product' for making your hair go wavy without burning it with tongues and wands of every inch of its life.  I had been swimming in the sea the afternoon before,  had let it dry naturally and then slept on it - this was the result - one of those fluke-hair days when it just decides to go right for a change.
