This weekend I fell in love with Comptoir 102, a concept cafe and boutique located along the Jumeirah Beach Road. The converted villa has only been open for six months and is something that I have never
experience in Dubai before. It is immodest, cool and chic, without any pretension. The French owned boutique has various products from jewelry to furniture, cool little nick-nacks to abstract art, but my favourite part was the organic cafe.
Each room of the cafe has a completely controversial interior design yet still seemed to complement each other with a seamless flow. The front terrace has a warm Moroccan vibe, with warm flees throws and a beautiful material draped ceiling that covers the open roof, the tops of the DIFC skyscrapers poke through the gaps making a wonderful juxtaposition in the relaxing setting. The terrace is linked to an indoor area, styled a little like a reading room with a book themed wall paper with quirky and eclectic furnishings. My favourite area was the courtyard at the back of the building, which took you out of Dubai into a dreamy world of friendship and laughter.
The food is all organic and potentially vegan as I could not see any meat or dairy on the menu. I opted for a mushroom bruschetta on a bed of compressed quinoa, which was devine. A lot of the other customers were ordering what looked like a blueberry cheesecake so I am looking forward to returning this weekend to try some! For something different to do on a saturday afternoon in Dubai, Comptoir 102 comes highly recommended.
