As briefly mentioned in my previous beauty post, I had my friends 30th Birthday black tie ball to attend at the weekend, which was a great excuse to have a little spurge in one of my favourite retailers, BCBG Maxaziria.
The dress I am wearing is called the Brandy Sleevless Lace-Bodice Gown and cost AED2,000. I’m not quite sure why I warmed to this dress so much, as yellow isn’t a colour I would typically wear, I prefer nudes and pastels but there was something about this dress that just worked for me. I was looking for a long gown that wasn’t too ‘poufy’ and I really liked how the skirt part of the dress was slim fitting and light. The skirt was layered and had a center front drape which split up to the knee. The square, low cut neckline was very romantic and I liked the contrast in textures with the lace bodice and chiffon skirt. The mini skirt underneath the layers was made from spandex, which was comfy and controlling.
I tried it on in the fitting room and was in two minds. I loved the dress but did feel a tad uncomfortable in it as the top part is quite revealing and I feel a little conscious exposing too much flesh. When in two minds, what to do? Take a selfie, upload it onto Instagram, distribute to your friends and ask for help. So I did and I left the shop to contemplate the purchase.
After getting feedback from the besties and a few very sweet gram-followers I decided to go back and get the dress, and I am glad I did. I justified the purchased by listing all the possible events I could wear it too – however I need to stop posting all of my outfits on the blog if I am planning on wearing something twice.
Since the top part of the dress was a nude lace I decided to wear my nude strappy shoes from Zara with it. I kept my accessories very simple as I thought that the simplicity of the dress was what made it pretty and I didn’t want detract or over power it with embellished jewellery. I wore these nude/pink stone tear-drop earrings from Forever21 and two simple gold bracelets, both from The Missing Link. My hair and makeup details are all in my previous post, which you can read here.
The event was at The Vault in the J W Marriott Marquis Hotel along Sheik Zayed Road. I love the different venues at this hotel, the interior design is understated yet glamorous and seems to ooze arrogance in a cool way. Would definitely recommend popping by for some drinks if you work in this area of the city.
