Carry On Camping!

TRAVEL

There is nothing I love more than spending a small fortune to live like I'm homeless for the weekend. Back to basics, at one with nature, de-stress and get active. Let's go camping!

Our usual camping hot-spot is Snoopy Island in Fujairah, here's the local map. It's a great camping spot if you enjoy snorkeling and paddle boarding, as the rocky islands attract a lot of sea life. Camping on the beach is just so much more practical when it comes to feeling clean and refreshed. There's nothing better than going for an early morning swim at 6.30am as the orange sun peeps over the horizon. It's beautiful.

There is a hotel called The Sandy Beach Hotel, right next to this spot which is so convenient.  If you forget anything or decide the survivor lifestyle just isn't for you, you can check in for the day and use their facilities for only AED100 per person.

Marley (the dog) loves this camping site too, it's really safe for animals and the area is dog friendly so it's great to set him free, watching him running up and down the beach and swimming in the sea.

Camping isn't cheap, unless you can borrow all the equipment you do have to invest in good quality camp essentials in order for them to last and make your experience enjoyable. It is great fun when you are well prepared. I love the simple life but you definitely need to be comfortable to really enjoy the experience.  Here is my essential list, and they are all very essential but are the basic equipment needed to have a great outdoors experience.

I also like to ensure I am well fed (oink oink) so I do a lot of food prep too. I usually pre-bake my jacket potatoes at home and stuff them with butter and cheese and wrap them tin foil. Then all you need to do is put them on the fire the warm up.  Needless to say marsh mellows and chocolate are also a necessity, you need sugar for additional energy so all of these calories are complete justified.
